Associate of Applied Science in Accounting

The objective of the Accounting program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required for entry-level positions in the accounting field. A variety of specialized accounting subjects will provide students with a general understanding of the basic concepts of accounting as applied in business offices in both the public and private sectors as staff accountants and office management trainees in specialized areas such as accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll. Courses in written and oral communications, technological applications and business organization help students to understand the broad scope and responsibilities of individuals working in the accounting field. Classroom instruction is reinforced through a business-related externship.

Graduates of this program may be involved in the preparation of reports and information for the internal and external users and decision makers of a business. These reports may include financial statements, income tax returns, payrolls, job costs and other management reports.

The length of the Accounting program is seven quarters culminating in 100 quarter credit hours.
