The objective of the Accounting program is to prepare students
with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required for
entry-level positions in the accounting field. A variety of
specialized accounting subjects will provide students with a
general understanding of the basic concepts of accounting as
applied in business offices in both the public and private
sectors as staff accountants and office management trainees in
specialized areas such as accounts receivable, accounts payable
and payroll. Courses in written and oral communications,
technological applications and business organization help
students to understand the broad scope and responsibilities of
individuals working in the accounting field. Classroom
instruction is reinforced through a business-related externship.
Graduates of this program may be involved in the preparation of
reports and information for the internal and external users and
decision makers of a business. These reports may include
financial statements, income tax returns, payrolls, job costs and
other management reports.
The length of the Accounting program is seven quarters
culminating in 100 quarter credit hours.
Associate of Applied Science Administrative Professional

The objective of the Administrative Professional program is to
prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work
habits required for an entry-level position in the secretarial
field. The curriculum is designed to provide solid secretarial
skills for students seeking positions that may offer opportunity
for advancement. Coursework includes oral and written
communications, fundamentals of business organization, word
processing, and management of the office, in addition to
speedwriting and keyboarding. An externship offers students an
opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to an actual work
environment. Graduates of the Administrative Professional program
will attain a minimum keyboarding goal of 50 words per minute
with 98 percent accuracy. Upon successful completion of the
program, students will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science
degree.
Graduates of this program may be employed as administrative
assistants, executive secretaries, office managers, and personal
secretaries. In their fields they will demonstrate a proficiency
in keyboarding, proofreading, and accounting.

Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration

The objective of the Business Administration program is to
prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work
habits required for an entry-level position in business as
administrative assistants and industrial management trainees, or
graduates may develop and manage a business of their own. The
curriculum will familiarize students with basic concepts in
business organization and management. Related coursework provides
students with a broad background in business skills including
accounting, management, marketing, and written and oral
communication to help prepare students for the various demands
placed upon them. Students are required to participate in an
externship program in which they apply classroom knowledge in the
actual work environment. Upon successful completion of the
program, graduates will be awarded an Associate of Arts degree.
Graduates of this program may be involved in both the management
and marketing areas of a business. In those fields they will be
able to demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making
skills by their ability to read and understand financial reports;
to apply modern management practices; and to apply
widely-utilized marketing and selling techniques.
